MaiestasHaven | A Tale of Two Towns

MaiestasHaven | A Tale of Two Towns
Hello fellow Redditors!
We're (as of the moment of writing) in the middle of our first whitelist-only curated map, dubbed "A Tale of Two Towns", where we have two distinct towns with a vastly different set of government ideology and economic systems in place! Thanks to districts and titles, we have the ability to simulate locality to laws, in effect paving the way for groups of people to join us who want to give us a try, while having full town autonomy! Of course, if you're by yourself and you want to give a well-organized world a go, both our existing towns welcome you with open arms :)
As one of the few servers to do so successfully, we have two sets of a dual currency setup going. As of this map, that includes foreign exchange ('forex') where people can get by solely by trading in the various currencies of the world if they so choose. Be sure to talk to SatsukiShizuka if you have questions about that - she's been the bank for several rounds and the designer of one of our economical systems.
On the other hand, if you're a builder, we have several custom mods, including more block types! We run a 60 day meteor cycle (mostly coinciding with SLG update cycles) so plenty of time to get things ready! Additionally, we have our own blog: https://www.praefator.nl/ where you can read up on my latest musings, as well as reading about server history, our roadmap, and our mods as well as the proposed government structure when multiple concurrent governments are a thing (come Beta 10.0).
With all that said, here is the nitty-gritty info to get you started:

Microsoft invests $1 billion in the organization for the development of artificial intelligence OpenAI

Microsoft invests $1 billion in the organization for the development of artificial intelligence OpenAI
Microsoft said it planned to invest $1 billion in the organization for the development of artificial intelligence OpenAI, according to the VentureBeat publication.

The companies have agreed to enter into a partnership to jointly develop AI technologies based on the Microsoft Azure cloud platform. Under the terms of the deal, the corporation will be able to sell products based on some OpenAI technologies. Besides, the organization will use the Azure cloud to test its AI models.
"AI is one of the most transformative technologies of our time and has the potential to help solve many of our world's most pressing challenges," said Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. "By bringing together OpenAI's breakthrough technology with new Azure AI supercomputing technologies, our ambition is to democratize AI — while always keeping AI safety front and center — so everyone can benefit."
Co-founder of OpenAI, Greg Brockman, said that the company needed this partnership also because of the lack of computing power. According to the company, from 2012 to 2018, the number of calculations required for launching AI models increased more than 300 thousand times.
In 2018, a quarter of all expenses of OpenAI fell on cloud computing, Reuters writes. In 2017, the company spent in this area approximately $7.8 million.
The organization has released several projects: the OpenAI Gym AI research platform, the Neural MMO gaming platform for bots training, the MuseNet AI 4-minute composition generator, the OpenAI Five program, which beat the professional Dota 2 players and others.
OpenAI was founded by Elon Musk, Peter Thiel and other partners in 2015. All of them have invested $1 billion in the organization. Until 2020, the company planned to spend only "a small part of this amount."
In February 2019, Musk announced that he had left the company due to a conflict of interest. According to him, Tesla tried to hire the same people as OpenAI.

Buying hashes, profit potential

I started with NiceHash less than 24 hours ago, and after a very brief research session, decided I'd buy Monero hashes, because at the time, the difficulty level predicted 4.1xmr in 24hrs at 100kh/s. I put in a fixed order that should have gotten me $20 profit, and then in the morning, it dropped to 3.5xmday, when the difficulty jumped. I only lost around $12 of the$200 I started with, and got a good feel for the system. As lessons in money go, I'm pretty content with the result.
I've been lurking around the edges of crypto since the rise of bitcoin, and I've decided I've missed enough opportunities, so for now, NiceHash will be my crypto muse. My job affords me enough disposable income to practice at this in a functional way, so here I am.
I can see where if I'd done better research I could have lost less, or an even made money by mining with more hashpower while it was hot. One of my questions is whether this type of opportunity is common?
What is the activity of buying hashpower called? Buying, trading, rentmining?
Are there any strategy guides, or is this thing still too new for anyone to be really good at it? Are there any people who are really good at it, and if so, who are they, and how much money are they making?
I'm familiar with process automation, to the extent that I'd be comfortable working with the NiceHash api, or just extending the NiceHash bot. I'd like to find more comprehensive sources for mining, and then automating different strategies.
There's a lot of crossover with forex concepts, which is another subject I've read about extensively, but never got around to practicing. I'm hoping I can learn how to profit from buying hashpower, but I figured I'd start with this: is it even possible to consistently profit from it?
Thanks for taking a look, and for any insights, links, and commentary.

WHY YOU’LL NEVER MAKE MONEY IN FOREX

When you need to prevail as awful as you need to inhale, you'll be fruitful. Much like throughout everyday life, you won't get far in exchanging Forex when you don't have the correct attitude coming in.
You've done your back testing, you've ensured you have the best system, you've pursued the best mentors, yet despite everything you end up with hardly a penny? It left you asking, what was I fouling up?
More than the correct devices and the correct procedure, your exchanging achievement relies upon you-yourself alone. For what reason is that? I hear you cry! All things considered, let me share a story to give you a superior picture.
The Story of Poor John:
A few moons prior, there was a yearning broker, named John. He worked in a 9-5 work as a bookkeeper. Tired of his daily schedule, John regularly ended up slacking off amid available time. At some point, he saw his cohort on Facebook boasting about how stunning his ongoing outing to the Caribbean was. Jealous, he burrows further. He proceeded to discover his companion's profile, just to see pictures after pictures of how great his life has turned out. This made him question himself: for what reason would he say he is progressively fruitful when I was a superior understudy growing up?
John pondered what his companion's mystery was. He made an inquiry or two and he at long last found his solution. His companion is exchanging the Forex Market! Thus this insane thought happened upon him. He figured, "I can do that as well"! I can likewise leave my exhausting activity, become a merchant, and lastly do what I needed throughout everyday life!
Not long after, John exited his profession with his fantasies of turning into a full-time Forex dealer. He was envisioning himself exchanging while at the same time sitting on a shoreline bed in a pure heaven some place. "It will be wonderful", he panted!
John did light research about the issue and immediately took in the nuts and bolts. He began with the base store and was currently acquiring penny after penny. Be that as it may, to John, it was insufficient. There was a voice in his mind that continued saying, "I didn't exit my profession for a couple of hundred dollars every month"! So he needed to take activities…
Following quite a while of perusing, back testing, and exchanging, John figured that the day has come! He had at long last framed a procedure! His fantasies of tasting piña colada while exchanging on his telephone under the blasting Maldives sun is at last working out!
Everything went well toward the start for John. His profit developed from a couple of dollars to a couple of hundred dollars every week. John was in incandescently happy! He's done it!
Yet, little did poor John know something horrible is en route… .
Half a month had passed, and the tides have turned. John was collecting many losseses. Brisk to his feet, John changed his system, and that fortunately spared him. Following several days, however, something wasn't right once more, thus John chose to make a couple of more alterations. Some work, generally fizzled. This went on. Many tweaks, John has slowly lost confidence in his methodology and on himself. He chose to proceed onward and begin starting with no outside help, just to be on a similar spot a long time after. He's fallen in the "Cycle of Doom"!
What has John Done Wrong?
John has tumbled to what a significant number of us call, the "Cycle of Doom". He picked and built up a technique; changed it when things went poorly arranged; endured misfortunes; changed it once more, and after that dumped it when he totally lost trust on the procedure.
This people, isn't the manner by which you do it. In the case of something doesn't work, worry not, as you'll be given numerous odds to get back up. Continuously back test your procedure, so you'll foresee how things may go later on. Besides, have confidence in your system. Try not to let enable yourself to be excessively made up for lost time with your feelings, as this accomplishes more harm than great.
Something else that John got wrong when he went in, was his mentality. He trusted the showcasing stunt numerous teachers have guaranteed: exchange while on the shoreline; duplicate somebody's exchange while never knowing anything, and become wealthy in only a $100, etc! He thought it was simple peas! (Disclaimer: I'm not saying that these aren't right, however arriving won't be a simple stroll in the recreation center. It will require investment.)
John speaks to the many hopeful brokers of today. A significant number of us came here reasoning that Forex is a snappy rich plan. Many idea it was simple. All things considered, I prefer not to break it to you, however it doesn't work that way. Exchanging the Forex Market requires diligent work, a ton of coarseness, and a huge amount of persistence.
Since you recognize what prompted John's end, I trust you'll take the lesson of our the present blog and apply it on your day by day life as a broker. Tell me what your musings are. Do you know a few Johns throughout your life? Have you been in a comparable circumstance? What have you done to get past it? I would love to hear your accounts!
Thus I close this with a notice: don't resemble Poor John.

Drowning myself with work

I'll do my best to make this as short as possible since I literally have no time right now.
Okay, so I'm 20 years old and right now I'm going through an odd transition period in my life. I'll just list all my issues so it's not a wall of text. I'm sure it's still going to be a lot so I'll put a tl;dr at the end for the impatient:
  1. I'm enrolled in a community college for an English major and I'm very fortunate enough to have a single mother that pays for most it. However, she's looking to retire soon and with the job I have, I don't know how possible it would be to transfer to a 4-year college financially.
  2. I work 1-9 pm shifts as a door-to-door canvassefield manager for a non-profit organization. I recently switched from a 4 day full time position to a 3 day part time position because I recently started an online class for college credit. While the coworkers there are absolutely amazing (in fact they're my only friends), they can be negative people sometimes and I don't want to surround myself with that. However it pays very well.
  3. I still cook and do chores for the house that me and my mom live in. I'm working 8-9 hours 3 days/week and she's working 10-11 hours 5 days/week to help pay for my college, so the least I can do is take care of the chores. We live in our now deceased grandma's home and it's way too big to maintain all of it (5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a backyard I have to mow once a week. Oy vey someone call a doctah).
  4. I exercise between 30-50 minutes 2-3 times a week. It used to be 4 times until I took the canvassing job. Walking for 5 hours straight can make your legs sore the day after.
  5. I'm trying to get involved in both writing and trading (more specifically Forex) and am studying relentlessly to pursue both. This is outside of all the college work I have to do. My goal in life is to be able to trade assets at home during the day so I can pursue other things like writing, music, maybe even art during the evening. I've worked in a cubicle before. The lack of natural light and cramped, monotonous spaces makes me want to fire an AR at a bag of puppies until the magazine empties very angry.
  6. My sister recently asked me if I wanted to be in her friend's band as the guitarist. The friend was the son of someone who played for a somewhat famous band back in the day, so of course I said yes. So now I have to figure out how to schedule that alongside my work, college study, writing, trading, exercise, and my at home duties.
Any and all advice would be much appreciated. Hopefully I made this as coherent as possible writing this @ 10:44 pm. Now if you'll excuse me, I have 15 assignments (not joking) due this week and I need to get cracking.
tl;dr:
  1. In community college. Mom pays for it, but is about to retire. Is going to be on fixed income so I don't know if I can afford 4 year college (and I'll be damned if I'm taking out a student loan. I'd rather ingest cyanide).
  2. Work as a door-2-door canvassefield manager. Only reason I'm staying is cause of the nice (sometimes negative) people and the sweet $$$. Might go into crime cleaning or something else that pays well.
  3. I do chores around a house that's too big for me and my ma cause she actually works overtime every day to pay for my college.
  4. Planning exercise around my routine becomes a struggle sometimes.
  5. Studying investment trading so in the future I can trade full time during the day and follow my muses (writing, art, music) during the afternoon/evening. This is a major part of the reason why I'm still working at a job I no longer care for since I need $$$ to actually invest in things.
  6. Sister asked me to be in friend's band. I accepted cause I like playing guitar.

SOS help me from myself.

My musings on why the financial pundits are wrong about the current state of bitcoin...

I should state outright that I am not a financial analyst, however, I have been responsible for some of the most critical architecture and infrastructure for the NYSE exchanges and also Man Group Plc (one of the worlds largest publicly traded hedge funds). So, I've been around financial gurus for a while and have picked up a bit of knowledge here and there about how most of these experts think and act (although that doesn't mean I'm not potentially wildly wrong in my musings).
Nearly every financial analyst and pundit I've read over the last few days during this Bitcoin news explosion has failed to break out of the mindset of this being just another currency exchange.
In a regular forex situation, if a currency suddenly took a 75% drop over the period of 48 hours, you can bet that traders would be damn cautious about dipping their toes back into that currency for a fair amount of time, and even when (if) they did invest again, it would be cautiously and only because they had good reason to suspect a jump in their favor that would justify the potential risk.
This seems to be the model most of the analysis articles I'm reading are taking, and I can understand why their saying the Bitcoins are unlikely to recover from this set back, or that it will take a long time for them to recover, however, I believe they're wrong, for one very simple (and big) reason that they're not considering.
Silkroad...
Most of us here in /bitcoin are speculators, having a bit of fun, playing with money we can afford to lose, because hey, who knows, maybe we'll suddenly become millionaires off our 1,000 USD/GBP/EUR stake.
But people like ourselves are only 50% (random figure plucked out of thin air) of the user base of Bitcoins.
There are a lot of people who are making large regular purchases on Silkroad, and for them they can't, or don't want to, sit around trying to time the market and squeeze every last cent's worth in their purchase. For these people, they don't mind paying a bit above the odds on the exchange rate, simply because that extra $5 in every $100 they're paying is more than offset by the reduction in price, increase in quality and extreme range of products of what they're buying on SR in comparison to what they can get from their "friendly" local neighborhood drug dealer. Let alone that it comes delivered to their door and they don't need to risk walking around a rough area of town with a bundle of cash in their pockets.
It's these people who will consistently keep driving up the value of bitcoins. These people who don't want to spend a week to grab $1,000 worth, who just want to get the coins, make their purchase and then party at the weekend.
So, unless SR switches their acceptable payments, there will continue to be people buying bitcoins at above market rate, and over (not so) prolonged periods these people will continue to cause the market average to rise.
But like I say, this is just like, my opinion man.
TLDR: Peoples love of drugs will cause Bitcoin rates to continue to rise.
Edit: Some typo's and grammar, etc.
Edit 2: So, surely this should work in the other direction too? The vendors raking in these coins from their SR sales need to convert them back to hard cash so they can buy more good to sell, so surely this should counter-act the rises the the markets caused by the customers? I don't believe this is true, simply because for the vendors, this is a business, so they will, and do take the time to play the market, sit on their coins until the rate is in their favor etc. Sure, they mash cash out some here and there at a lower than ideal rate, just to cover their overheads, but you can be damn sure when they make their big cash outs, it's when the markets is in their favor. That said, it will be interesting to see how many SR vendors go dormant for a while after this debacle while they wait for the market to pick up again so they can cash out their coins and buy more stock...
